Wow. I actually sat through the ENTIRE Oscar broadcast tonight. And this despite having a huge midterm and presentation this week. Boy do I have my priorities messed up!

Actually, I began watching TV with the Barbara Walters special an hour before the awards began. Teri Hatcher is one of my favourite actresses and I could have watched just her being interviewed for the entire hour. She seems so regular and normal; same insecurities and doubts as us "non-celebs," and yet so full of wisdom. Her story about always talking down on herself and taking the "burnt toast" instead of the good pieces was really inspiring... I wish I had a transcript of that or something because it was a great interview.

Anyway, it was actually a pretty entertaining Oscar broadcast. Chris Rock did a funny job with his opening monologue, but I thought the funniest portion was when he went to interview movie-goers at a Black cinema.

"Did you watch Million Dollar Baby?"
No.
"Did you watch Sideways?"
No.
"Did you watch The Aviator?"
No.
"Did you watch Finding Neverland?"
No.
"Did you watch White Chicks?"
Damn dude, that movie was off the hook!
"What else did you like this year?"
I loved Alien vs. Predator man! And Chronicles of Riddick!

Black people are hilarious I tell you. (Happy Black History month by the way).

Beyonce was also amazing! I was scared that having her sing 3 songs tonight would lead to a bit of Oscar overkill (can anyone say Jamie Foxx?) but she was sooo good! She looked stunning and her voice was in perfect form for each of the songs she tackled. I can't wait to download her performances to watch again.

I'm also excited to download (oops, I mean, "rent") Hotel Rwanda, Maria Full of Grace (hellO actress girl who plays Maria! She looked HOT!), The Chorus, Finding Neverland and many of the other movies that sparked my interest tonight. It seemed like this year, all the nominees were well-deserved and everyone was genuinely happy for everyone else. That's probably because the perpetually whinny (read: sore losers) Nicole Kidman and Renee Zellweger weren't nominated this year so we didn't have to put up with their fake "I'm so happy you won" smiles.

Alright it's like midnight and I have not yet cracked open a single textbook the entire day. Must do that now... or maybe I'll just go to sleep... yeah, definitely going to sleep.

Was I watching The OC last night or an old repeat of Jerry Springer? Because between the "I want to know if you had sex" bit, the "I have something to tell you.. I'm a lesbian" bit and the "You say I'm her father but I need proof!" bit, it seemed all too talk-show esque to me y'know? I could almost picture a voice saying, "After the break... the paternity test results are revealed!" Of course, they weren't and we go back to being confused over Lindsay. I mean, we just started accepting her as part of the Nichol family and now they're telling us she's not? Thank god for Julie Cooper's one-liners because those scenes were not fun until she showed up!

As for the scene with Marissa coming out to Summer... was it just me, or was it really anti-climactic? Summer didn't even let out a single "EWW!" (And was it just me again or did Mischa Barton's boobs get bigger? Stop hanging out with LIndsay Lohan so much girl!)

Anyway, next week's preview looks good. But if Sandy kisses Rebecca... grrr...

Yes! It looks like Amanda (Anne "Has-bian" Heche's character) is finally out of Everwood. Which is great news because frankly, I was not digging the whole marital affair thing with her and Andy. I know we were 'spose to sympathize with her because her husband was bed-ridden and he treated her badly and she was going to divorce him long ago and blah blah blah.. but it wasn't just the moral breakdown that bothered me. Amanda and Andy together just made for boring television. Plus, we all know he should totally be with Nina right?

Anyway, last night's episode was good (the girl who plays Hannah is such a good actress eh?) but did you SEE the previews for next week?! Madison is back! Duh duh dunn... And it looks like Ephram finds out about her baby! Or should I say, HIS baby?

But knowing The WB preview people, I've gotten used to more than a few misleading previews... which leads me to believe that either a) Ephram will not find out b) Madison had an abortion or c) She was never pregnant in the first place (In other words, it was a false positive test). Guess we'll just have to wait and see...

Whoa. Something strange happened tonight: I was so bored by American Idol that I ended up switching to MuchMusic to watch "The Road to Stardom with Missy Elliot" instead. And trust me, the Missy reality show was way more gripping and emotional than anything on A.I. tonight. Idol was just plain weird. Like for example, Elizabeth Pha? What the Pha-k was she doing tonight?! She is seriously psycho! Like between her jappy throaty voice (she sounds like she's always about to hiccup) and her creepy laughing, I thought she would take out a knife and literally, backstab her two group members! The fat balding white guy who tried to sing black? Also weird. His groupmates describes him as "planet of the apes" which is so fitting because if you look at his face (particularly his eyes), he looks like an alien! As for the whole Paula and Simon bickering bit, I thought it would be the usual comedic back and forth banter, but it was real! Like they were REALLY fighting! I can't believe the Executive Producer had to be called in! I'm glad they got rid of that fat rocker though because he was baaaad. Why they didn't get rid of the overzealous overemoting black twin, I do not know.

The Road to Stardom, meanwhile, had each of the contestants write a speech about burying something from their past. And boy were these guys deep! One girl wrote about giving up her baby, another wrote about being beaten by his dad and one wrote about being in jail! I knew as soon as Missy introduced this "talk about your past" segment that the white girl Melissa would be kicked out. I mean, all the other contestants were black (except one white guy but he's out next week... trust me) and talked about family deaths, gangs, drugs, poverty and overcoming the streets and projects. Melissa just cried about not fitting it and being young and stuff. That is NOT ghetto enough for this show girl! Try American Idol.

Oh my god. Now Regina Brooks is going to die.

I can't believe she was eliminated on American Idol tonight! (Regina was the one who said "If I can't sing I would die" in case you forgot... then again, they showed the clip like 3 times in half an hour tonight so how could you forget?... it was sorta funny watching the clip though wasn't it?) I didn't think she was bad at all. Plus she lost 40 pounds and got a nice makeover. I was so surprised that I called Sarah to voice my disbelief and actually did a search for "Regina Brooks suicide" on google. Thankfully, there was no news on her death. But I mean, did you SEE her hick-husband? He was the one who didn't believe she could make it in Hollywood. I swear she gets abused! How could she go home to that? And her goodbye "speech" was equally sad: "I'm just going to be crappy forever because everytime I try to do something I fail." Awwww... that is heart-wrenching!

Shame on you American Idol for ruining (and possibly taking away) this young woman's life!.... (I can't wait to see what happens tomorrow!) =p

Addendum: Hmm... I did a little research and came up with more about the mystery that is Regina Brooks. After reading THIS, I can't decide if I feel even more sorry for her or if I hate her a little bit for being an evil person. What do you think?

I got a double dose of Oprah today. I was driving home on Friday so I had to tape the "Wildest Dreams" episode with Felicity Huffman (Lynette on Desperate Housewives). But boy was it good! She looked like a kid in a candy store when she stepped on stage to sing with Tina Turner and she got SO into her singing and dancing! And how old is Tina Turner? She can DANCE! I was really surprised to see her busting those moves out there because I always pictured her as this old, graying granny.

Today's Oprah featured Will Smith and the stars of his new movie, "Hitch." A lot of the episode was cheesy, sappy stuff about Will's marriage and smooth techniques and what not and I have to admit, it was a little weird when he kissed Oprah - in front of her mom! Her mom was in the audience and Will was talking about "kissing from all angles" and "pleasing his woman" while carressing Oprah's foot and stuff and frankly, it was creepy. But when Will put his "date doctor" skills to work and helped out an Oprah viewer, it was much more fun to watch. Basically, Will Smith and Kevin (forgot his last name) from "King of Queens" helped this geeky, white guy turn into a confident mack. And it was hilarious when this nerdy guy turned to Oprah and said "I went to a hip-hop club!" Hard to really describe.. guess you had to watch it yourself...

Nothing brings a family together like making fun of ugly individuals as they get dissed about their lack of fashion sense.

Yes, my mom and I spent two hours together last night watching "What Not to Wear." And surprisingly, she actually enjoyed it. I sorta expected her to give me the wholesome Christian lecture on "not caring about material possessions" or "not judging people by their appearance," but she actually laughed along at Clinton and Stacy's jokes and even did the whole "wowwww..." thing when they revealed the new and improved made-over participant. Then this morning, when I told her I was going out today to look at jeans instead of having breakfast with her, she didn't even say anything! And when I told her I was going to be spending the afternoon shopping, all she did was say "Okay, have fun." W-what? Wow. This show changes lives people!

I missed the first half hour of The OC tonight because I was waiting in line at the car wash. I know that sounds like a crummy excuse, especially for an ardent OC fan like myself, but you should've seen my car. Winter driving in downtown Montreal does not a purdy car make.

Anyway, having missed the first half of tonight's episode, I'm not quite sure how the whole Sandy and Rebecca thing got on. I AM sure, however, that Kirsten was not amused to find her husband's ex-girlfriend sleeping in his new office! (But I mean, we totally saw that coming right?) My friend Karla [who kindly offered her house for TNT this week (TNT = Thursday Night Tradition)] also correctly predicted a "bonding" moment between Marissa and Alex as soon as the sappy Rachel Yamagata song came on. I was hoping for a little more than a hand-hold, but I am willing to stay patient and appreciate the baby steps. The 2005 OC previews promised us some girl-girl relationship stuff but I'm still waiting... Honestly though, this is so typical of lesbians y'know? They're such a tease!

As for Seth and Summer, it's hard to root for them because I like Zack a lot. He's such an all-around good guy! And he's the perfect person to use that phrase on too eh?

Finally... Ryan Ryan Ryan. Look what you've done... again. I'm glad Caleb gave him that big speech because frankly, I had forgotten about the whole Theresa pregnancy thing. In fact, Saira, Karla and I had a big argument over what exactly happened with her and the baby because it seemed like SO long ago! I thought she lost the baby and Saira thought she kept it. As it turns out, we're both right because - remember?! - Theresa told Ryan she lost it so he could leave but secretly kept it! I wonder if that story's gonna come back... I also wonder where Julie Cooper is because the show's not the same without her! But that's another blog posting altogether...

FREAKY NEWS!

R&B singer, Houston, best known for his hit song (and McDonald's jingle) "I Like That" tried committing suicide last night by... gouging his eyes out!

Click HERE to see the damage... but be warned, it's pretty gross!

I thought he was doing pretty well for himself... Sure he's a one-hit wonder but still, I don't know why he would want to kill himself. And I mean, suicide by eye-gouging?! Ouch!

Thoughts from last night's programming:

American Idol
1. Randy's whole "Dude you can BLOW!" statement is very wrong. Especially when he's saying it to an obviously gay farmboy who takes that sentence as a compliment on a whole different level...
2. What was with LL Cool J hugging everyone who got cut? I think he half expected the girls to squel with delight but most of them were too upset to notice.
3. You know that scrawny kid at the end... the one who doctors said "would never speak again?" (Yeah right...) Did he not remind you of Clay Aiken? If we get another Clay Aiken this year....

MuchMusic Power Shift
1. I really think that Devon Soltendieck does not like fellow VJ Sarah Taylor. Now granted, I think she has this awkward way of phrasing her sentences... ex. "WelCOME back toooooo MuchMusic right... like y'know?" I swear she used that sentence once. But the thing is, Devon was so rude to her on Power Shift last night! He would roll his eyes at her and cut her off mid-sentence! Then he would raise his eyebrows and do the whole "o-kay..." thing whenever Sarah made a comment. Diss! It's so obvious the two of them don't get along and it sucks because this is ruining their hosting abilities on the show!

One Tree Hill
1. Dan! Pffft!
2. And Keith proposing to Maria Menunous?! Whoa! I can't decide if I like her or not... because I can't decide if she's still working for Dan or if she's really changed!
3. Finally, I didn't write about it last week, but I am SOOO glad that Jake is back! And back with Peyton! Finally, a somewhat normal pairing of two people who are good for each other!
