Wow. I actually sat through the ENTIRE Oscar broadcast tonight. And this despite having a huge midterm and presentation this week. Boy do I have my priorities messed up! Actually, I began watching TV with the Barbara Walters special an hour before the awards began. Teri Hatcher is one of my favourite actresses and I could have watched just her being interviewed for the entire hour. She seems so regular and normal; same insecurities and doubts as us "non-celebs," and yet so full of wisdom. Her story about always talking down on herself and taking the "burnt toast" instead of the good pieces was really inspiring... I wish I had a transcript of that or something because it was a great interview. Anyway, it was actually a pretty entertaining Oscar broadcast. Chris Rock did a funny job with his opening monologue, but I thought the funniest portion was when he went to interview movie-goers at a Black cinema. "Did you watch Million Dollar Baby?" No. "Did you watch Sideways?" No. "Did you watch The Aviator?" No. "Did you watch Finding Neverland?" No. "Did you watch White Chicks?" Damn dude, that movie was off the hook! "What else did you like this year?" I loved Alien vs. Predator man! And Chronicles of Riddick! Black people are hilarious I tell you. (Happy Black History month by the way). Beyonce was also amazing! I was scared that having her sing 3 songs tonight would lead to a bit of Oscar overkill (can anyone say Jamie Foxx?) but she was sooo good! She looked stunning and her voice was in perfect form for each of the songs she tackled. I can't wait to download her performances to watch again. I'm also excited to download (oops, I mean, "rent") Hotel Rwanda, Maria Full of Grace (hellO actress girl who plays Maria! She looked HOT!), The Chorus, Finding Neverland and many of the other movies that sparked my interest tonight. It seemed like this year, all the nominees were well-deserved and everyone was genuinely happy for everyone else. That's probably because the perpetually whinny (read: sore losers) Nicole Kidman and Renee Zellweger weren't nominated this year so we didn't have to put up with their fake "I'm so happy you won" smiles. Alright it's like midnight and I have not yet cracked open a single textbook the entire day. Must do that now... or maybe I'll just go to sleep... yeah, definitely going to sleep.
