Whoa. Something strange happened tonight: I was so bored by American Idol that I ended up switching to MuchMusic to watch "The Road to Stardom with Missy Elliot" instead. And trust me, the Missy reality show was way more gripping and emotional than anything on A.I. tonight. Idol was just plain weird. Like for example, Elizabeth Pha? What the Pha-k was she doing tonight?! She is seriously psycho! Like between her jappy throaty voice (she sounds like she's always about to hiccup) and her creepy laughing, I thought she would take out a knife and literally, backstab her two group members! The fat balding white guy who tried to sing black? Also weird. His groupmates describes him as "planet of the apes" which is so fitting because if you look at his face (particularly his eyes), he looks like an alien! As for the whole Paula and Simon bickering bit, I thought it would be the usual comedic back and forth banter, but it was real! Like they were REALLY fighting! I can't believe the Executive Producer had to be called in! I'm glad they got rid of that fat rocker though because he was baaaad. Why they didn't get rid of the overzealous overemoting black twin, I do not know. The Road to Stardom, meanwhile, had each of the contestants write a speech about burying something from their past. And boy were these guys deep! One girl wrote about giving up her baby, another wrote about being beaten by his dad and one wrote about being in jail! I knew as soon as Missy introduced this "talk about your past" segment that the white girl Melissa would be kicked out. I mean, all the other contestants were black (except one white guy but he's out next week... trust me) and talked about family deaths, gangs, drugs, poverty and overcoming the streets and projects. Melissa just cried about not fitting it and being young and stuff. That is NOT ghetto enough for this show girl! Try American Idol.
