At 8pm this evening I was an unhappy camper. Canadian Idol was on and I was stuck at church practising songs for service this Sunday! Trust me, I did not want to be there. Was God really more important than hearing Elena Juatco sing?! If this wasn't the best (and most literal) example of the "you shall have no idols before me" commandment, I don't know what is. Fortunately (for my salvation), I chose God. But it was a close decision between the big guy and Kalan Porter lemme tell you!

At 10pm this evening I was incredibly giddy and a little emotional. I watched the top 6 performance on tape and to my surprise, Gordon Lightfoot songs were extremely moving and entertaining! Who knew?! I always thought of him as an "adult contemporary" singer... oh who am I kidding, I thought he was a big old geezer! But the contestants delivered such great performances tonight that it made me want to discover more of his songs. And as a small bonus, my dad watched the entire episode with me because he knows a lot of Gordon Lightfoot's music. It was nice sharing a television program with my father, y'know? (Ooh.. I promised myself I wouldn't cry...) Yeah right.

I know people think I only like Elena because she's Asian, but c'mon, how good was she tonight?! Amazing. I like this toned-down Elena a lot better and the song not only showed her range, but also her maturity. I definitely think this was her best performance yet.

Theresa was good too. Usually the words "Sarah McLachlan" are an automatic tranquilizer for me, but Theresa made me want to pay attention and listen to her sing that song.

Kalan was perfect as usual. And kudos to the make-up department for getting rid of that horrible eye shadow Kalan had on for the past few weeks. But no-kudos to them for putting the eye shadow on Jacob instead. *shiver* (And speaking of make-up, what is with the cheesy Loreal commercials? Tanya Kim's hawking hair products but she's got the worst grown-out roots on TV! And she should know a thing or two about fake tans! *shiver*)

Anyway - Jason has got to go. You know the word "honky tonk?" Look it up in the dictionary and it would say "Jason Greeley's performance tonight on Canadian Idol."

Alright. I gotta go put my fore finger on ice. It was dialing in votes non-stop for like half an hour. And people say young people don't vote! Psssh!

I took my brother out for Dairy Queen tonight. Hey, Kaleb was finally off Canadian Idol so we needed to treat ourselves for not voting for him!

(And Ben, FYI, having someone tell Kaleb that he's "the best male R&B singer in Canada" is not that big a compliment. I mean, do we even have ANY male R&B singers in Canada? Uh... Glenn (one hit wonder) Lewis? Shawn Desman? *shudder*)

To the person who searched for "Elena and Kalan going out" - stop it you bad bad girl! I must mention here, however, that my friend Emily thinks something is going on between Jason and Anna (a girl from the top 32 round). THIS picture, begs to differ. Theresa and Jason look to be in a mighty compromising position here if you know what I mean...

So apparently Brandy's engaged again... although this time it's actually for real (Why did she lie about her marriage in the first place man?)

And... J. Lo's marriage with Marc Anthony has lasted yet another month longer than expected which means once again, the "J. Lo is pregnant" rumors have come out!

In other news you NEED to know... former Much VJ Bradford How is now working for... VH1 in the States?! Read about it HERE

Paris and Nicole should stick to UN-scripted television.
Their hosting gig on the Teen Choice Awards? So NOT hot.

Ashlee Simpson and the cast of the OC? That's hot.

A "dialogue" based on tonight's Canadian Idol:

Me: Shane is so off-key and he looks so awkward trying to dance to that uptempo Lionel Ritchie song!
Judges: That was awesome Shane! Way to step it up!

Me: Theresa doesn't sound that good tonight... her voice is so raspy I can barely hear it!
Judges: Great performance! We love the "vulnerability" in your voice!

Me: Jason has no range or emotion in his voice. BO-ring!
Judges: When you sang that line with all that emotion, I was hooked! Fantastic!

Me: Shoot.. that was Elena's worst performance yet. She's SO gonna be in the bottom three tomorrow.
Judges: Elena - THAT is what we've been waiting for! Your best performance since your first audition!

And to prove my ("controversial") theory that the judges are just propping him up because he's black:
Me: Kaleb - Whoa. SO off-key in his delivery. Stop saying "holla" and "yeah" and "mama" like you're some big superstar cuz you're NOT. You can't sing straight! And stop making those "jerky" motions with your shoulders!
Judges: Even though you had some shaky moments...
Me: Yes! They finally agree with me that Kaleb sucks!
Judges: Oh who cares - we love you! WE LOVE YOU!!!!!!!
Me: Huh? WTF?

Other thoughts on tonight's ep:
1. Did you notice how hard Ben Mulroney tried making funny banter about college nicknames and stuff but NO one paid any attention to him? And stop over-tanning Lindsay Lo-.. I mean, Ben Mulroney!
2. It was so funny when Elena held up the "Happy Birthday" sign to her friend! Awww....
3. Joshua Sellers - Stop trying to get on camera and hog the spotlight beside Jacob's family! We know you're just there to get some facetime on screen! You're idol time is over so go away!
4. Jon Dore is a comic genius.

Prediction? Shane is out tomorrow. (Jason should be next).

Was it just my over-analysis or was Rick the Temp totally hitting on Ashlee Simpson during Much on Demand today?! Telling her she smelled nice twice, saying she looked great, saying she's got "great moves," super-complimenting her CD, saying she looked good in an old video they showed of her, flashing his toothy grin at her every other second.... eww.

On a related note, who wants to go with me to stalk... I mean... meet Ashlee Simpson at Sherway Gardens tomorrow? It's at 6pm though which means I'd have to leave work early. Hmm... which mysterious sickness can I feign this week? (Kidding! I am SO dedicated to my job!)

Apparently Sass has been reading my blog. Which would explain why she "complimented" Elena tonight and said she "shouldn't be in the bottom 3." Whatever, she's still a bitch. Sass that is... not Elena.

It was kinda wipe-away-one-drop teary to see Josh go, but let's face it, Canadian Idol only has room for one curly blond hair pretty boy and Kalan is it. Unfortunately, there wasn't anything else especially unique about Josh.

Finally, four words: Jon Dore is so funny! (And I'm not being sarcastic there at all! He honestly cracks me uP!)

My friends wanted to go camping this summer. We were gonna make it our version of "The Simple Life." Instead of leaving glamorous Hollywood for the backwoods of America, we were leaving pretentious Richmond Hill for uh... a campsite somewhere with trees... Unfortunately, my friends don't say things like "loves it" and "that's hot" and "sexy bitch." So I told them I couldn't make the trip.

But just for the record, I, Tim Chan could TOTALLY have survived camping (a.k.a. our "Simple Life"). Now if you excuse me I have to get my maid to make me a snack.

=p

Sass is an ass.

My "friends" over on the Canadian Idol message boards (and by "friends" I mean stupid nine-year old kids who reported me and kicked me off the boards for being "mean") have been writing about how Sass Jordan is really harsh and extra-critical toward the girl contestants but gushes over the guys. I never really thought much of this... until tonight!

Elena delivered SUCH a soulful and flawless performance and I can't believe Sass had the nerve to say that she hated it! She hasn't said one good thing about Elena yet. And dissing Kalan Porter? That is just... plain... wrong! And was it just me, or did Sass' eyebrows look extra catty tonight? It's as if her makeup artist wanted to bring out the inner bitch even more. Purrroar!

As for Caleb... sigh... I swear the judges were reciting lines tonight when heaping praise on him. (Zack in particular looked so pained when giving his compliments) Caleb is so weird! He's like jerky and thinks he's really cool and adds too many ad-libs to his "singing." There are only two words I can think of to explain why this is happening: "affirmative action," people. Look it up.

Jacob was more earnest and sincere this week and the song he sang is supposedly a Christian song ("You are everything" refers to God, not a girl). This doesn't surprise me considering I overheard his girlfriend talk about Jacob's church praying for him last week. I was all like "what? he goes to church?" and she was all like "yeah, he misses the worship a lot." Except I was talking to myself. And she was responding to someone else.

Finally... I am SO glad I took that picture with Shane Wiebe last week! And you all thought I was being sarcastic about him being good and all! Psssh. Sure his performance was more "laughable" than "enjoyable" but still, way better then anything he's done so far this competition!

I voted for Elena like ten times. Because I liked her performance. And because my Filipino nanny will kill me and poison my lunchbox if I don't.

The Amazing Race is back for its 5th season and I just wanna state that I have watched this show since its very 1st season - waaay before it became the big popular hit it is today.

That being said, these are the teams I'm rooting for this year:

1. Charla and Mirna - sure they're bitchy but Charla's a midget so you can't NOT root for them... right? It'd be like.. not holding the door for a cripple... it's just wrong!

2. Chip and Kim - If you've read through the archives of this blog you know that I have a soft spot in my heart for Black people. And Chip said it best tonight: "Who woulda thought a dude from South Central and a girl from Compton would make it?" Dats right my brotha! You go girl! Who's outta the hood now?! Who's made it outta the hood now?! Dang! (insert other "Black" phrases here...)
And last by certainly not least, my favourite team this year is:

3. Brandon and Nicole - They're models AND they're Christians! That's like my sole aspiration in life right there. Beauty and Biblical. Damn. (Uh.. I mean... darn... it.) Nicole also reaffirms my fading faith that there ARE pretty girls who go to church. Thank god. Literally.

Hey - remember Soul Decision? Well they're back with a great new song called "Cadillac Dress" (don't ask me about the title, I'm clueless too) and they've added a few new members to round out the band. The song's got a cool, funky groove to it and it's a nice acoustic-driven track for the summer. Check it out HERE

A lot of people have been referred to this site after searching for "Paris Hilton's bruises." Upon further review, I've discovered that these "bruises" are said to have been the work of a very upset Nick Carter, who lashed out at Paris in a fit of rage... Somehow I don't see that happening, but that's the rumour according to (the always reliable and incredibly truthful) popdirt.com

Paris is as thin as a straw so perhaps she took a nasty tumble and just bruises easily? I don't think Nick Carter is the abusive type... AJ on the other hand...
