Okay... was I watching Ellen yesterday or the Rosie O'Donnell show circa 1996? I mean, a talk show with a lesbian host with special guests Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys? It was like watching a rerun only with a prettier lesbian and uglier guests. I mean, how STUPID did Britney and Kevin look on the show? They could barely manage a complete sentence in between her "aww baby's" and his "aggdsghsdfkj" ("aggdsghsdfkj" = NOTHING!). Add in the constant giggling and the way he kept rubbing her thighs (eww!) and they were the epitome of WTT as my co-worker calls it - white trailer trash. I tried thinking of something to say in defense of my beloved Britney, but there was nothing I could possibly say or do that could save this poor girl. Kevin Federline is the type of guy we used to see in our Ontario Safety Brochures under the heading "Don't Talk to Strangers" or in our health classes when we talked about STDs. When Britney married him, her already-dangerously-low IQ dropped another 10 points. I'm happy for her pregnancy - and Ellen's pimped out baby carriage was awesome! - but this just means that Brit Brit's gonna be taking care of two babies instead of one. As for the Backstreet Boys... I like them, I really do. I mean, I share secret BSB update emails with my friend Doris and I'll probably buy their new CD. But there's something about 30 year old men trying to sing teenybopper songs that just sounds (and looks) very wrong. Plus, didn't they all suddenly look so short on Ellen yesterday? Anyway, I've already blogged about the BSB "moves" - namely, the "put hands together in prayer" move, "the clench fists and look longingly into the camera" move and "the arms stretched, look to the sky" move - but even their "emotional" songs seem a bit forced now don't they? Even Ellen made fun of Nick's "fall on your knees" move yesterday, but kudos to Nick for laughing it off. I dunno... Britney and BSB were way cooler when they appeared on the Rosie show ten years ago. Now it's like they're there (BSB after all, were "Never Gone") and still looking half-decent, but something just seems... "incomplete."
