Wow. The guys really BROUGHT IT tonight on American Idol. I was prone to repeated channel surfing during their performances the past few weeks but I really liked most of them tonight. Standouts in particular: Anthony (Don't call me Clay) Federov, who sang a Marc Anthony song I really liked; Nikko Smith, who delivered a great soulful rendition of a Ray Charles' classic (and Simon said Oscars when he meant Grammys.. did you notice that?); and Travis Tucker, who took a risk and brought the whole package to the stage - singing, dancing and even beat-boxing. And it's cool when you can rock a Bobby Brown old-skool tune wearing suspenders. It's just cool. Of course, Anwar Robinson, the music teacher, was amazing. I thought he was too soft-spoken (and a little too much like Akil on Missy Elliot's Road to Stardom)) plus his dreadlocks were more annoying than flattering.. BUT, I agree with Simon that he's just a real genuine personality. I like that. Unlike Mario, a.k.a Fez + Justin x 2 (Justin Guarini and Justin Timberlake), who I swear is getting really cocky and smarmy, I think Anwar won't become a devo (male diva) if he wins. Constantine is a little cocky too. Is it just me or his is really not that talented? Plus, I read somewhere that he toured in a theatre production of Rent and that is SO not rocker of him! Back to Simon for a second... My friend Sarah and I have been noticing how Simon keeps wanting to make comparisons but he's running out of things to compare the singers too. For example, he's compared the bad singers to hotel singers, cruise ship singers, karaoke singers, bar singers and impersonaters. He's clearly running out of things to use... Note to Simon: Stop it with the comparisons already! And while we're on the topic, stop using the "Can I be honest with you?" and "You know what you're problem is?" lines too!
