Is it just me or are the American Idol performances really underwhelming this year? Like there wasn't a single performance from last night and tonight that made me sit up and take notice. In fact, many of them made me change the channel! You know it's bad when even Paula Abdul is struggling for something good to say. And tonight, she even told Janay that she didn't like her performance. Ouch. From Simon it's expected; from Paula it's mean.

Okay fine, perhaps my apathy towards A.I. is due to being angry at myself for failing to take advantage of being in Miami (U.S.) last week and voting for contestants on the show. I was totally watching Idol too and I had the phone beside me! Damnit!

Anyway... I read that the producers are trying to tell Ryan Seacrest to be extra nice to the contestants if they get dissed by the judges because apparently last week's result show proved to be too emotional and stressful for the singers. You could tell Ryan was trying to implement this new "nice guy" strategy tonight because after each rejected performance, he kept saying stuff like "well you'll just come back and show them!" and "don't worry hun, it's America that votes." But I have to agree that with the judges getting meaner and (dare I say) crazier (what's with all the inside jokes and giggling?), Ryan is emerging to be the most normal and comforting face on the show.

Speaking of Ryan's face, I'm so glad he's over the over-tanning. And it looks like he's actually quit the blond highlights and gone back to his natural colour (the same which can't be said for Clay Ai-.. I mean, Anthony Fedorov who apparently developed a Hollywood complex and dyed his hair purple tonight! Ugh.) As Simon said tonight, "less is more" guys. Less is more.
