I didn't get to watch the Canadian Idol finale until 10pm last night because I had to be at church from 7:30-10. Oh my god... literally. And when I finally arrived at Micah's house to watch it on tape, we had a few nervous moments of "did it tape?" and "why is the VCR blinking?" and "ahhhhhh!" before we finally settled down. I just want to state here that I, after having been a loyal "Idol" follower (I even watched clips from Pop Idol and Australian Idol online), can safely say that this year's Canadian Idol Top 10 is the best group of singers EVER put together on the "Idol" stage. I mean, even the first one we kicked out - Brandy Callahan - could blow you away. And for once, I'm not even referring to her being fat. She had really big... pipes. The group medleys didn't feel contrived like they did on American Idol... maybe it was because it wasn't all "dueling divas" and uh.. Jon Peter Lewis. Rather, they showcased the amicable personalities of our top 10 and also their well-earned talents. Last night was no exception... with the exception of Joshua Sellers (Sorry, something bugs me about him... can you say "attention hog?!") When Theresa and Kalan sang "True Colours" at the end, it was so genuine and sincere. And I liked that. And I liked them. So in the end, to absolutely no one's surprise, Kalan won Canadian Idol. He will now get stuck with that incredibly AWFUL song (which I will still buy) but hopefully not be stuck with an incredibly awful career (see: Ryan Malcolm). Theresa too will have a great career and I'm not just saying that as some sort of weird allegiance to all things Canadian Idol. I firmly believe she has the talent and charisma to make it.
